Navigating the "Week Between"

The week between December 25 and January 1 can feel strange. Schools are closed, schedules change, and the days are short. For many newcomers, this time of year can also feel quiet or lonely.

Here are three simple ways to connect with your community and take care of your wellbeing this week:

1. What is Boxing Day? You might see long lines at stores today. In Canada, December 26 is "Boxing Day." Historically, it was a day for employers to give boxes of gifts to their staff. Today, it is mostly known for shopping sales.

  • Tip: If you don't like crowds, you don't have to shop! It is a statutory holiday for many, meaning it is a perfect day to rest.

2. Embrace the "Winter Walk" London has beautiful trails that are free to use. Walking outside, even when it is cold, is excellent for your mental health.

  • Try this: Visit Victoria Park to see the lights, or walk the trails at Springbank Park.

  • Remember: Dress in layers!

3. Connect with a Neighbour The LMLIP’s vision is a community where everyone feels they belong. If you know a neighbour who might be alone today, consider saying hello or dropping a note in their mailbox. Small connections build a welcoming community.

We wish you a safe, restful, and happy start to 2026!
