Ramona Lucan: How the LMLIP is Making Our Community More Welcoming

Ramona Lucan doesn't just help people for a living - it's her life's mission. As a Developmental Service Worker at Community Living London, she goes above and beyond by volunteering with the LMLIP. She's been there since the early days, driven by a simple goal: "Setting immigrants up for success."

With her background in developmental services and immigrant support, Ramona brings a unique view to community integration. And boy, has LMLIP been busy! For 15 years, they've been working hard to make London a better place for newcomers, emphasizing the importance of understanding and acceptance in our community.

Ramona has some great stories from her time with the LMLIP. One that really sticks out is her work with the Settlement sub-council. "We helped newcomers with housing by teaching landlords and new immigrant tenants about their rights and responsibilities," she says. It's about more than merely finding a place to live—it's about building understanding between different groups in the community.

But Ramona doesn't stop at housing. She says, "For over 15 years, LMLIP has helped newcomers integrate into life in London in all sorts of ways - from finding jobs to education, health, feeling included, and getting involved in the community." This comprehensive approach ensures that newcomers have the support they need to build their new lives in Canada.

What's next for LMLIP? Ramona's got big hopes. "I want to see LMLIP keep supporting newcomers and become a permanent part of how immigrants settle in," she says. It's all about making lasting, positive changes in London.

For Ramona, the LMLIP is all about "Different viewpoints, new ideas, chances to learn and grow, more job opportunities, solving problems, and getting creative." This wide-ranging impact makes the LMLIP so crucial to London's community. Volunteering with LMLIP is not just about helping others, but also about personal growth and learning.

As LMLIP turns 15, stories like Ramona's show just how much the organisation has done - for individuals and the whole community. Thanks to volunteers like Ramona and the support LMLIP provides, London is becoming a more welcoming, inclusive, and lively city for everyone who lives here. This is a testament to the power of community and the positive changes we can make when we come together.
